Former superintendent Ken Athorn, 79 years, passed away on 11 April 2024. Ken served at Attercliffe, in Training and in Traffic. Details of his funeral will be circulated when known. Ken's funeral will take place at 12.15pm on Tuesday 14 May 2024 at St. James Church, Norton Church Road, Norton, Sheffield S8 8JQ and afterwards at Norton House Country Club, Norton Lane, Norton, Sheffield S8 8HD. No flowers, donations in lieu to the Edale Mountain Rescue.
Former superintendent Graham McKay, 85 years, passed away on 8 April 2024. Graham worked across Sheffield and beyond. He was a career detective and worked in the Regional Crime Squad for many years. Graham’s funeral took place on Tuesday 23 April 2024.
Former constable David Myers passed away on 1 March 2024. He worked most of his career at Doncaster and was the collator for many years. His funeral has already taken place.
Former chief inspector Keith Scothern, 90 years, passed away on 1 March 2024. He was an ex West Riding officer and retired in 1983. His funeral service took place on Tuesday 26 March 2024.
Former chief inspector Ken Brewster passed away on 27 February 2024. Ken served at Hammerton Road and in Traffic. Ken's funeral took place on Tuesday 19 March 2024.
Former superintendent Bill Barnard, 89 years, passed away on 17 February 2024. Bill served as the sub-divisional commander at Attercliffe and Hackenthorpe, he also worked in HQ Prosecutions and Complaints and Discipline. Bill's funeral took place at 2.45pm on Tuesday 12 March 2024.
Former Superintendent Terry Stuart, 85 years, passed away on Saturday 17 February 2024. In the mid 60's he joined the Sheffield City Police serving in uniform and CID in the Sheffield Divisions, Rotherham, HQ Serious Crime Squad, No 3 RCS and HQ Operations Division. The majority of his service he was a AFO and for many years leader of the Firearms Special Group.
In 1983 as the Detective Superintendent at E Division he was the SIO for the Dore Murders and dealt with Arthur Hutchinson.
Towards the end of the 80's he took up the additional role as Secretary of the SYP Superintendents Association and was a member of various national working groups. He retired from SYP in 1994. Terry’s funeral took place on Monday 4 March 2024.
Former detective sergeant Milton Graham, 91 years, passed away on 26 January 2024. He joined Sheffield City Police in 1958 and started his career at Attercliffe; went into CID in 1963 and was promoted detective sergeant at Water Lane in 1968. In 1972 he was seconded to the RCS at Woodhouse, returning to West Bar CID in 1980. In total Milton spent 21 years as a detective. His funeral took place on Thursday 15 February 2024.
Former constable Stephen Eaton, 73 years, has passed away. Stephen worked at West Bar and Hammerton Road. He was a dog handler.
Former constable Tony Bevis, 75 years, passed away on 14 January 2024. I know Tony worked at West Bar but am unsure where else he served. He was not a member of NARPO.
Former inspector Tony Bradley, 87 years, has passed away. Tony worked at Hammerton Road, Rotherham and Traffic. Tony's funeral took place on Wednesday 31 January 2024.
Former police sergeant Harry Buxton passed away peacefully at home on 1 January 2024, aged 87 years. Before joining the police, Harry served in the Grenadier Guards. Harry then worked at Hammerton Road, West Bar and HQ Prosecutions. Harry's funeral took place at 2pm on Wednesday 17 January 2024.
